Sharon and I started this bookstore because of our love for and knowledge of The Urantia Book. The Urantia Book claims to be a revelation and it gives the name Urantia to Earth. Ur is the ancient word for the beginnings or the first.
We do believe that the UB is a revelation, but we don't agree with everything in the book. One thing it says that we do agree with and have tried to follow is this: Instead of trying to find the "one" spiritual approach which is "the truth," it is best to study and experience, especially through sharing with others, as many different approaches to God/Spirit as possible.
A moment's reflection will tell you that this is how the bookstore is fleshed out.
This story would not be complete without Joe Crow. Joe was an avid reader of the UB as well as Swedenborg and many others. He was influential in the founding of the first AA group in Austin. He supported many good causes in Austin, including Huston-Tillotson College and the YMCA. It was his generous donation that founded us. Joe died in 1988 and we have managed to survive ever since.
Your donation is always welcome and is fully tax deductible. In fact, now would be a good time!
Both Sharon and I are very grateful to serve in this way.

Frances Meiser "Simply delicious," is the best way I can describe my life and job at World Spirit Books. My name is Frances Meiser, and I am a 33 year resident of Austin, a mother of 2 and a grandmother of 3. I am also an author of 3 self-help books on basic brain care, an educator and a long-time meditator. I was first introduced to WSB by a friend who told me about a book club that discusses the book, "Love Without End," by Glenda Greene. My friend said I could get the book at WSB on S. Lamar. Like a kid in a candy store, I kept coming back for more.
Because of a poster in the store introducing a Deva Premal concert in Austin and hearing her CD playing in he store, I began my love for chanting and the silence that followed. I could go on and on, but will stop here.
About 10 months ago, a friend saw a sign in WSB looking for "part-time help." Having already set my intention to work there, I was out the door, and here I am!
Wil Kinsley I'm the newbie, My partner & I recently moved from West Hollywood to Austin. There is a very similar bookstore there called The Bodhi Tree, where I started my spiritual journey 16 years ago. WSB & stores like this (not very many now) have a way of turning your life around, which they certainly have for me.
Really enjoying Austin & working in the positive energy at WSB with all the great people who work there. I look forward to meeting many of you when you come in.
Sharon Lanier Sharon likes to read historical fiction especially books from the era around 1776. She loves to grow tomatoes in her garden and can be occassionally spotted upside down looking for "hookworms." You may find her eating pizza one day and drinking green smoothies the next. Since becoming a HeartMath Practitioner three years ago she says her passion is on learning to hear and follow the "voice" of the spirit within.
Ted Lanier Ted is a songwriter, philosopher, musician, economist and loafer (penny)! He is also a punster, jokester and preacher/teacher. He says to stay tuned....
